Charlotte leaders in hospitality and journalism explore the story they are telling and what is being told about Charlotte. What do visitors to Charlotte feel? Is Charlotte a generic city? Or does Charlotte have a distinct quality? What experiences define the city? What should the meaning of Charlotte be?  Join in on the conversation!  

Our Panelists:

Rick Thurmond is Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Charlotte Center City Partners. He provides enterprise-wide leadership, direction, and strategy for all CCCP brands. He also leads Music Everywhere CLT, a nonprofit initiative to develop Charlotte’s music scene and economy. Previously he was editor and publisher of Charlotte magazine. Rick received an MBA from Wake Forest University School of Business.

Gina Sheridan is Chief Marketing Officer at Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, the city’s leading tourism marketer. Her efforts are centered on enhancing positive perceptions and spending in leisure tourism, while directing overarching marketing and communications for CRVA and its brands. Gina received a Bachelors degree in Communications from UNC Wilmington.

Andy Smith is publisher of Charlotte magazine, where he previously served as executive editor, digital director, and arts editor. He was previously the digital editor at Hi-Fructose Magazine and spent much of his career as an arts journalist, writing for national publications and cultural institutions. In 2019, he co-wrote the book Hi-Fructose: New Contemporary Fashion. Andy received a Bachelors degree in Journalism from West Virginia University.

Caroline Wright is Senior Vice President and Chief Venues Officer of Tepper Sports & Entertainment. Caroline leads all aspects of Bank of America Stadium's day-to-day operations, ensuring best in class operational performance. She previously spent 27 years with Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, most recently as the Vice President and General Manager, Venues.
